Saltsyre (HCl) er en stærk, monoprotisk mineralsyre dannet ved opløsning af brintchloridgas i vand; den er stærkt ætsende og dissocierer fuldstændigt i vandige opløsninger. Den anvendes bredt i laboratorier og industrien til pH-regulering, metalbearbejdning og produktion af organiske og uorganiske forbindelser. På grund af sin reaktivitet skal den håndteres med passende sikkerhedsforanstaltninger, herunder kemikaliebestandige materialer og ordentlig ventilation.
