Mikrorør er ideelle til anvendelser, hvor rør skal inkuberes, til brug af radioaktive molekyler eller til DNA-/proteinforskning, hvor prøveintegritet er vigtig. Mikrorør kan autoklaveres flere gange og er meget økonomiske i brug. De er lette at aflæse med gradueringer i milliliter. Låg kan enten være skruelåg eller fastgjort til mikrocentrifugerør for let påsætning, og selv kliklåg forbliver på plads under intensiv centrifugering. Fås i koniske eller flade bunddesigns.
