Ampuller er typisk lavet af borsilikat glas og bruges til at lagre og opbevare flydende eller faste prøver. De fleste ampuller kan tilskæres for at gøre åbningen mere enkel og sikker for brugeren. Det er ikke nødvendigt med konserveringsmidler på grund af den lufttætte forsegling. Ampullerne er en økonomibevidst måde at transportere små volumener af opløsninger til regelmæssig laboratoriekontrol under stabile forhold.
