Furthermore, it is insensitive to typical PKC inhibitors and cannot be activated by phorbol ester. Unlike the classical PKC isoenzymes, it has only a single zinc finger module. These structural and biochemical properties indicate that the zeta subspecies is related to, but distinct from other isoenzymes of PKC. Ubiquitin like proteins fall into two classes: the first class, ubiquitin-like modifiers (UBLs) function as modifiers in a manner analogous to that of ubiquitin. Examples of UBLs are SUMO, Rub1 (also called Nedd8), Apg12 and Hub1. Proteins of the second class include Parkin, RAD23 and DSK2, are designated ubiquitin domain proteins (UDPs). SR-BI and SR-BII (previously known as SR-BI.2) are the alternatively spliced products of a single gene. SR-BII and SR-BI are identical except for the encoded c-terminal cytoplasmic domain. Therefore, the relative expression and functional activities of these two isoforms create a potential means of regulating selective lipid transfer between HDL and cells.
