Sera-Mag Oligo(dT)-Coated Magnetic Particles enable convenient mRNA isolation and extraction. Sera-Mag Oligo(dT) Magnetic Particles bind target mRNA through pairing of the polyadenylated RNA tail found on the 3' end of mRNA to the covalently bound oligo(dT) groups on the surface of the particles. This binding is easily accomplished using standard hybridisation conditions. Versatile and efficient methods for mRNA purification are critical, given that eukaryotic mRNA makes up only 1 to 3% of total cellular RNA. Sera-Mag Oligo(dT) magnetic particles remove 90% or more of mRNA from total RNA with just one extraction.

Poly-lysine is a polycation which binds to DNA, red cell membrane and any negatively charged protein. When adsorbed to the culture surface, poly-lysine increases the number of positively charged sites available for cell binding. A compromise between the easier to use lower molecular weight products and the extremely viscous higher molecular weights would be the products in the range of 70,000-150,000.
It is typically used as a coating substrate for culture dishes, slides, etc. It enhances electrostatic interaction between negatively charged ions of the cell membrane and the culture surface. Both the D- and L- form of the poly-lysine can be used as a coating substrate since poly-lysine is a nonspecific attachment factor for cells; however, certain cells can digest poly-lysine. In this case, poly-D-lysine should be used as the attachment factor so that the cells are not disrupted by excessive uptake of L-lysine.
Other uses for poly-lysine have been reported as well:
• Conjugation to methotrexate for increased drug transport.
• Microencapsulation of islets.
• Use in simple reproducible procedure for chromosomal preparations from a variety of tissues.
• Immobilation of living cells in biocompatible semipermeable microcapsules.
• In the preparation of polycationic beads.
• Conjugation to albumin and horseradish peroxidase to enhance cellular uptake.
Poly-D-lysine hydrobromide is a synthetic amino acid that enhances cell adhesion to solid substrates. It has additionally been shown to eliminate prion proteins from infected cells.

Zinc-alpha-2-glycoprotein (ZAG), first identified in the 1960s, derives its name from its precipitation from human plasma upon the addition of zinc salts. ZAG has since been found in secretory epithelial cells and in a range of body fluids. ZAG is identical to a lipid mobilizing factor isolated from the urine of patients with cancer cachexia and stimulates lipolysis in in vitro and in vivo experiments. Due to its expression in, and secretion from adipocytes, ZAG is considered an adipokine. Recently the clinical significance of ZAG has been clarified. ZAG expression in adipocytes is inversely related to fat mass, thus it is intimately involved in the maintenance of body weight in mice and humans. Epidemiological studies have uncovered an association between ZAG and plasma cholesterol. The non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphism rs4215 in ZAG is associated with plasma cholesterol and obesity. Structurally ZAG possesses a class I major histocompatibility complex (MHC) protein fold. It is distinct from other members of this protein family in that it is soluble, rather than being anchored to plasma membranes, and it associates with prolactin inducible protein rather than beta2-microglobulin. Similar to peptide antigen-presenting class I MHC molecules, ZAG possesses an open apical groove between its alpha1 and alpha2 domain helices.

Interleukin 25 (IL-25) belongs to the Interleukin 17 (IL-17) family of proteins, which is comprised of six members (IL-17, IL-17B through IL-17F). IL-17 family proteins are pro-inflammatory cytokines that induce local cytokine production and are involved in the regulation of immune functions. Human interleukin-17E (IL17E), also referred to as Interleukin-25 (IL25), is a distinct member of the IL17 cytokine family comprised of at least six members sharing a conserved cysteine-knot structure but divergent at the N-terminus. IL25 is a glycoprotein secreted as dimers by innate effector eosinophils and basophils, and present at very low levels in various peripheral tissues. Oxidized Low-Density Lipoprotein Receptor 1 (Ox-LDL Receptor 1) is a secreted, single-pass type II membrane protein which belongs to the C-type lectin superfamily. Ox-LDL Receptor 1 is expressed at high levels in endothelial cells and vascular-rich organs such as placenta, lung, liver, brain, aortic intima, bone marrow, spinal cord and substantia nigra. The expression of Ox-LDL Receptor 1 is induced by inflammatory cytokines such as TNF, IFNG and IL6 by pathological conditions, such as hyperlipidemia, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Ox-LDL Receptor 1 mediates the recognition, internalization and degradation of oxidatively modified low density lipoprotein (OxLDL) by vascular endothelial cells. Ox-LDL Receptor 1 association with oxLDL induces the activation of NF-kappa-B through an increased production of intracellular reactive oxygen and a variety of pro-atherogenic cellular responses including a reduction of nitric oxide (NO) release, monocyte adhesion and apoptosis. Ox-LDL Receptor 1 also binds to oxLDL, which acts as a receptor for the HSP70 protein involved in antigen cross-presentation to naive T-cells in dendritic cells, thereby participating in cell-mediated antigen cross-presentation. It also participates in inflammatory process, by acting as a leukocyte-adhesion molecule at the vascular interface in endotoxin-induced inflammation.
