Magnetic beads, such as those made of hematite, can be used in scientific applications including cell separation, protein isolation, IVD assays, and many more. These beads come in a variety of strengths for powerful separation and isolation. Captured substrates can be useful as ligands in subsequent experiments, including mRNA isolation and the capture of primary or secondary antibodies. Magnetic beads are a convenient affinity support for a variety of assays, which allow easy purification of the target without columns or centrifugation. After a binding step in an affinity purification procedure, the magnetic particles are easily and rapidly collected by placing the microcentrifuge tube or reaction vessel next an appropriate rare-earth magnet.
