Mikropipety se používají k bezpečnému dávkování přesných mikrolitrových objemů kapalin pro testování. Jednoduchá obsluha vyžaduje stlačení horního pístu; po jeho uvolnění je kapalina nasáta. Při opětovném stlačení je nasátá kapalina vypuštěna. Pevné nebo nastavitelné objemové varianty mohou mít zabudované dorazy špiček, aby se zabránilo přeplnění. Stupnice na průhledném těle nástroje a barevné kódování zaručují, že je vždy použita správná kapacita.
