Peristaltická čerpadla fungují na principu stlačování a uvolňování pružné hadičky, čímž napodobují přirozenou peristaltiku pozorovanou v mnoha biologických systémech, a využívají objemový posun k pulznímu pohybu tekutin. Postupy zůstanou bez kontaminace, protože jedinou částí čerpadla, které se roztok dotýká, je vnitřek hadičky. Čerpadla navíc dokážou zpracovávat těžší a agresivnější kapaliny. Pružné hadičky vyžadují jen málo pravidelných výměn a údržby.
