Pro přípravu aplikací reálné časové polymerázové řetězové reakce jsou izolovány malé segmenty DNA nebo RNA a umístěny do PCR destiček. Díky běžným matricím jamek a vysokoprofilovým nebo nízkoprofilovým provedením, která jsou kompatibilní s termocyklery, PCR destičky usnadňují rychlou amplifikaci segmentů, když není požadováno ruční zpracování. Alfanumerická mřížka, barevné provedení a popisovací plocha poskytovaná destičkami se sukní zajišťují přesnou identifikaci vzorků za všech okolností.
