CC/mount is an aqueous based permanent mounting medium with a very high refractive index, which when applied to the stained tissue sections can store the tissue specimens permanently without the fading of the chromogens. Because of the superior refractive index of CC/mount, tissues mounted in this medium look like specimens mounted with organic based mounting media. No coverslipping is required with CC/mount. However, if coverslipping is required, dried CC/mount can be post mounted by using an organic based mounting medium. CC/mount permits the long-term storage of antigens localised using organic insoluble chromogen substrates, including AEC, DAB, Fast Red, BCIP/NBT, BCIP/INT and fluorescent dyes like FITC and phycobiliproteins. The high pH of CC/mount ensures increased stability of fluorescence intensity.

The separation medium, Histopaque-1077, is a sterile-filtered, endotoxin-tested solution of polysucrose and sodium diatrizoate, adjusted to a density of 1,077 g/ml. ACCUSPIN System-HISTOPAQUE-1077 employs γ-irradiated 50 mL polypropylene centrifuge tubes specially designed with two chambers separated by a porous high-density polyethylene barrier ('frit'). Each tube is aseptically filled with 15 ml of Histopaque 1077. Each tube will separate 15 to 30 ml of anticoagulated blood.

Alcian Blue solution has been used in the histological staining of acidic glycosaminoglycans (GAGs; mucopolysaccharides) that are carboxylated or sulfated. Sulfated glycosaminoglycans appear to be the preferred substrate for alcian blue at pH 2.5. Alcian blue has been used to stain hyaluronan (HA), a nonsulfated GAG, but the intensity of the staining of HA is affected by the method of tissue fixation used. Alcian blue staining of GAGs in tissue may be modified through the addition of an electrolyte such as magnesium chloride.
