The tablets are dissolved in 100 ml of the water sample to be tested, which has been buffered at pH 10 with 1 ml of Ammonia/ Ammonium chloride buffer solution, and then titrated with EDTA solution (0,01 M) till the sample turns from red to blue.
Total hardness in mg/l = 10×ml of titrant used.

Control samples of  calcium carbonate should be used to calibrate the method.

Il test PhotoCheck è stato specificamente progettato per testare l'accuratezza fotometrica nei fotometri Spectroquant® Merck. Può essere utilizzato come standard secondario per il controllo di strumenti secondo le norme DIN EN ISO 9001 E 14001. Contiene soluzioni di controllo stabili per la verifica dei seguenti filtri e lunghezze d'onda 445 e 446 nm, 520 e 525 nm, 690 nm. L'accuratezza fotometrica e la linearità dell'estinzione vengono controllate con 4 soluzioni per ciascun valore di lunghezza d'onda. La tracciabilità delle soluzioni di controllo a standard internazionali è garantita dalla procedura preliminare di verifica delle soluzioni stesse in un fotometro di riferimento rispetto allo standard primario (standard NIST). I valori così ottenuti sono tracciabili allo standard primario.
