Lo scopo delle pompe HPLC è mantenere un flusso costante di fase mobile attraverso l’HPLC, indipendentemente dalla pressione causata dalla resistenza al flusso della colonna impaccata. La maggior parte delle pompe HPLC commerciali si basa su un design a pistone alternativo. Le pompe HPLC possono essere utilizzate per miscelare o combinare la fase mobile e per fornirla al sistema. La loro funzione è ridurre il tempo di separazione delle colonne di grandi dimensioni e consentire l’uso di riempimenti con particelle di dimensioni più piccole.
