Histosec® pastilles is an embedding medium for histology of samples of human origin. It is a paraffin enriched with polymers, also available without the addition of DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide). DMSO increases the rate of penetration of paraffin and provides additional preservation of the tissue structures. Its melting range is between 56 - 58 °C and, within this range any specimen can be processed without fear of damage irrespective of the method used.

In most clinical laboratories the paraffinization is performed with an automated embedding system and is performed directly after the histoprocessing.

Paraplast® is a paraffin–polyisobutylene mixture for tissue embedding and infiltration. It is a refined combination of highly purified paraffin with plastic polymers. It produces minimal tissue compression and wrinkle-free sections and cuts to 4 μm thickness with excellent ribbon continuity.

Paraplast Plus® is a tissue embedding medium comprising highly purified paraffin and polyisobutylene with approximately 0.8% DMSO added to improve infiltration, sectioning, and penetration into tissues. It is recommended for tissues that are difficult to process with regular Paraplast®. Paraplast Plus® cuts continuous ribbons at 2 μm thickness or short ribbons at 1 μm thickness.

Paramat is a finely filtered blend of specially selected high purity paraffin wax with an addition of polymer to give improved embedding, tissue support and reliable sectioning. Residual moisture in the tissue and traces of intermedium are dispelled. The pastille shape makes for easy handling.

Paraffin polyisobutylene mixture is a tissue embedding medium composed of highly purified paraffin and polyisobutylene and a low level of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) to enhance the rate of tissue penetration. Paraffin-polyisobutylene (76258) supports thin wrinkle-free sectioning down to 4 µm with more flexible and continuous ribbons.
