Gel elettroforetici

I gel di elettroforesi, allo stato liquido, diventano una matrice semisolida dopo il raffreddamento e sono facili da caricare nelle camere di corsa. La loro trasparenza consente di vedere i campioni colorati, e come mezzi anticonvettivi o setaccianti diventano porosi permettendo la formazione di bande quando viene applicata una corrente elettrica. Dal tempo necessario alla formazione delle bande è possibile determinare la dimensione e la carica dei frammenti. I gel di elettroforesi, utilizzati per separare miscele di DNA, RNA o proteine, sono comunemente impiegati nelle tecniche di analisi della ricerca scientifica.
