Comme tous les instruments d'analyse nécessitent un étalonnage, les solutions étalons redox et ORP ont été spécifiquement conçues pour vérifier le bon fonctionnement des capteurs à électrodes de potentiel de réduction. Une fois les oxydants et les réducteurs ajustés aux concentrations connues de la solution, il est possible de tester efficacement l'affinité électronique acquise ou libérée des substances chimiques après une réaction.
