Lors de la manipulation d'échantillons liquides organiques, les manchons chauffants constituent une alternative aux brûleurs Bunsen et aux plaques chauffantes. Contrairement à d'autres dispositifs de chauffage, les récipients en verre peuvent être placés en contact direct avec le manchon chauffant sans risque de bris. Alors que les modèles en tissu peuvent être moulés pour s'adapter à une grande variété de formes et de tailles de flacons, les manchons chauffants rigides sont moins sensibles aux déversements ou aux déchirures.
