Das Partikel hat eine dünne poröse Hülle aus hochreiner Silica, die einen festen Silicakern umgibt. Dieses Partikeldesign weist aufgrund der flachen Diffusionswege in der 0,5 μm dicken porösen Hülle und der geringen Gesamtpartikelgröße von 2,7 μm eine sehr hohe Säuleneffizienz für gelöste Stoffe mit hohem Molekulargewicht (bis zu 20 kDa) auf. Die endcapped, Phenylhexyl-gebundene Phase des Peptids Phenylhexyl bietet eine stabile Umkehrphasenpackung mit einer Porenstruktur und Porengröße, die für Umkehrphasen-HPLC-Trennungen von Peptiden und Polypeptiden optimiert ist, wobei typische saure mobile Phasen bevorzugt werden für proteomische Anwendungen.
