Bei der Entwicklung von Dauerpräparaten zur langfristigen Lagerung von Proben sollten wasserfreie Eindeckmittel, wie z. B. Neo-Mount®, verwendet werden. In pathologischen Laboren verarbeitete Objektträger müssen bis zu 10 Jahre gelagert werden, wobei die Anforderung besteht, dass die Färbeergebnisse stabil bleiben und kein Ausbleichen stattfindet. Neo-Mount®, ein wasserfreies Eindeckmittel für die Mikroskopie, ist äußerst farbstabil, was durch Lösungsmittel auf Basis von Mischungen aliphatischer Kohlenwasserstoffe erzielt wird. Es enthält ein aromaten-freies Ersatzmittel für Xylol, weshalb Neo-Mount® ausschließlich in Kombination mit Neo-Clear® verwendet werden darf. Bei der Eindeckung ist die Anwendung von Xylol zu vermeiden, da es die Objektträger eintrüben und Streifen verursachen kann. Da unter dem Deckglas Luftblasen entstehen könnten, sollten die dehydrierten Objektträger für ca. 1 Minute vor dem Eindecken auf Filterpapier abgelegt werden, um so eine Überschuss von Neo-Clear® zu verhindern. Die gleiche Vorkonditionierung sollte ebenfalls bei der Eindeckung von Proben mithilfe von Eindeckautomaten angewendet werden. In diesem Bereich lässt sich NEO-CLEAR® am effizientesten durch Inkubation der Objektträger für eine Minute in einem leeren Objektträger-Rack eliminieren.
