Die Zinkchloridkomponente der Formulierung erhöht die Steifigkeit der Zellkomponenten, damit sie nachfolgenden Verarbeitungs-, Schnitt- und Färbeverfahren standhalten. Gewebeproben, die zunächst mit einer 10% neutral gepufferten Formalinlösung fixiert wurden, können mit dem Zinkformalin-Fixiermittel nachfixiert werden.
