Gewebekulturpuffer liefern eine Energiequelle, halten den richtigen pH-Wert aufrecht und sorgen für idealen osmotischen Druck. Vorwiegend in der biomolekularen Forschung eingesetzt, weisen die trockenen und flüssigen Substanzen eine ausgewogene Zusammensetzung anorganischer Salze auf. Optionen mit niedriger Konzentration ermöglichen einen Ausgleich mit Luft in einem geschlossenen System, während Optionen mit höherer Salzkonzentration die Gasphasen im Gleichgewicht halten. Zellwachstum ist optimal, wenn es in ein gepuffertes Nährmedium eingebracht wird.

Principally these solutions should be used to keep the cells in suspension only for minutes or a few hours maximum. These buffers and solutions are not cell culture media.
