Peristaltische Pumpen arbeiten, indem sie ein Stück flexiblen Schlauch zusammendrücken und wieder freigeben, um die natürliche Peristaltik vieler biologischer Systeme nachzuahmen. Sie nutzen Verdrängungspumpenprinzipien, um Flüssigkeiten pulsierend zu bewegen. Die Verfahren bleiben mit diesen Systemen kontaminationsfrei, da nur das Innere des Schlauchs mit der Lösung in Kontakt kommt. Außerdem können die Pumpen schwerere und aggressivere Flüssigkeiten fördern. Die flexiblen Schläuche erfordern nur wenige regelmäßige Austausche und geringen Wartungsaufwand.
