Pistille
Stößel werden meist in Kombination mit Mörsern verwendet, obwohl dünnere, Einwegmodelle auch mit Zentrifugenröhrchen genutzt werden können, um Bakterienzellen, Nukleinsäurepräzipitate oder Proteine sowie andere Pellets erneut aufzuschwemmen. In Verbindung mit Mörsern sind Stößel in der Regel schwere Werkzeuge mit abgerundetem Ende zum Zerkleinern und Mahlen von Proben. Sie sind ein wesentlicher Bestandteil des manuellen Mahlprozesses und zeichnen sich durch einfache Handhabung und äußerst geringen Wartungsaufwand aus.
