EC Blue ist eine einfache, schnelle und zuverlässige Testmethode zur qualitativen und quantitativen Bestimmung von Coliformen und E.coli in Wasser. Bei einer fäkalen Kontamination durch E.coli können diese Bakterien nur unter UV-Licht (Reaktion mit einem Fluoreszenzfarbstoff) eindeutig nachgewiesen werden. Schwebstoffe, trübe, gelbliche oder gechlorte Wasserproben stören im Allgemeinen nicht den Nachweis. EC Blue ist bei Raumtemperatur bis zu zwei Jahre haltbar, wenn es vor Licht geschützt ist.
