Netzgeräte wandeln Ströme und Spannungen so um, wie sie für den Betrieb der jeweiligen Geräte benötigt werden. Dank des Schutzes gegen Kurzschluss und Überspannung wird die Langlebigkeit teurer Maschinen oder Geräte nicht gefährdet. Im Falle eines Stromausfalls stellen die elektronischen Geräte automatisch den Betrieb wieder her, um empfindliche Materialien zu schützen. Geregelte, ungeregelte oder einstellbare Netzgeräte werden nach der allgemeinen Leistung kategorisiert, mit der konstante Ströme oder Spannungen präzise auf den gewünschten Niveaus erzeugt werden.
