In einer anderen Wirkungsweise wirkt Gentamycin auf Pseudomonas aeruginosa durch Bindung an die äußere Membran dieses Bakteriums. Dadurch verdrängt es natürliche Kationen, destabilisiert die Membran und bildet Löcher in der Zelleoberfläche. Gentamycin wirkt gegen Gram-negative Bakterien, Staphylococcus aureus und andere Gram-positive Bakterien.

Gentamycin Sulfate is a broad-spectrum, aminoglycoside antibiotic used for cell culture which inhibits protein synthesis in sensitive organisms. Gentamicin is used as the sulfate salt. Each component consists of five basic nitrogens and requires five equivalents of sulfuric acid per mole of gentamicin base.
