All powdered culture media contains bacteria that, although killed during the sterilization process, may show up as dead bacteria on your Gram stain. This is a possible cause of false positive reports. This problem is solved by filtering its Thioglycollate before sterilization, leaving the medium clear, clean, and free from dead bacteria! Avoid false positives, and insist that your Thioglycollate be filtered.
