A mysterious animal skull has been left outside the school. A shoe print has been left beside it, and there is other potential trace evidence in the area. This introductory forensic science unit shows students how to address the question of who put it there or who stole the money that was inside the skull. This can either be a mystery or a crime scene. Students analyze fingerprint, blood, hair, fiber, imprint, and documentation evidence over the course of about five days. The kit includes activity materials. The teacher instructions, student worksheets, suggested cross-curricular activities, directions for how to stage a trial, and extensive NGSS alignment are available for a free one-time download by using a QR code.
