BBL™ Salt Broth (Modified) is a selective medium for the differentiation of Enterococcus species from the Streptococcus bovis group of streptococci.
- Growth (turbidity) within 72 hours indicates that the strain is salt tolerant
- Sometimes changes the indicator color from purple to yellow within 72 hours
- Broth media containing 6.5% NaCl are used to differentiate enterococci by determining the salt tolerance
Digests of animal tissue provide nitrogen and carbon compounds essential for bacterial growth. Dextrose is an energy source.
Bromcresol purple is an indicator of acid production during bacterial metabolism. Sodium chloride serves as a selective and differential agent.
