MacConkey II Agar is a selective and differential medium for the detection of coliform organisms and enteric pathogens.
- Low concentration of bile salts
- Crystal violet inhibits growth of gram-positive bacteria
- Lactose and neutral red indicator aid in differentiation of enteric microorganisms
MacConkey II Agar is recommended for use with clinical specimens likely to contain mixed microbial flora, such as urine, because it allows a preliminary gropuing of enteric and other gram-negative bacteria.
