Overview and solutions for homogenization and extraction of nucleic acids from wastewater for disease surveillance and metagenomic analysis Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is a useful tool for surveying sewage to monitor COVID-19 variants, other infectious diseases, pollutants, antibiotic resistance, metagenomics, microbial communities, and additional health markers within a community. The sample preparation step of the workflow is critical for ensuring the overall quality of nucleic acids used for further downstream processing.
This webinar focuses on use cases and solutions for wastewater, sludge or fecal homogenization and nucleic acid extraction. We introduce FastPrep® instruments, lysing matrix and kits for obtaining high-quality DNA and RNA, ready for downstream analysis. Speaking points will address:
- An overview of wastewater analysis for disease surveillance and metagenomics
- The importance of nucleic acid homogenization and extraction for wastewater studies
- Sample prep solutions for processing wastewater, sludge and fecal samples
