The alpha chain encoded by the gene for CAMK2A is required for hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP) and spatial learning. In addition to its calcium-calmodulin (CaM)-dependent activity, this protein can undergo autophosphorylation, resulting in CaM-independent activity.

LMP2A contributes to the survival of EBV-transformed B cells (Mancao and Hammerschmidt) and mediates partial escape of infected B cells from recognition by EBV-specific CD8+ T cells (Rancan et al). In contrast, type VI collagen appears to be prevalent in several tissues even though it has been isolated largely from placental villi preparations.
