Contact between the flat, polished cover glass surface and the cover glass supports produces an exact volume of fluid over the counting area. The one-piece construction ensures long term durability and accurate measuring results.

Each plateau features enhanced Neubauer rulings. The loading side of each plateau features a "V" slash to facilitate filling and reduce the threat of overflow. The ruled surface rests 0.1 mm below the cover glass, limiting the volume of blood or fluid to 0.1 mm² per square, and 0.00025 mm² over each of the 400 squares.
