Bacto Malt Extract is the water-soluble portion of malted barley.
- High concentration of reduced sugars, especially the maltoses, makes this suitable for the culture of yeasts and molds
- Malt extract in the agar form is recommended for the detection and isolation of yeasts and molds from dairy products and foods, and as a medium for stock culture maintenance
Due to the extraction process, this animal origin-free supplement provides a very high carbohydrate content to any medium. Bacto Malt Extract has been used successfully in microbial fermentation applications.
