Cystine tryptic agar is used with added carbohydrates in differentiating microorganisms based on fermentation reactions and motility.

This agar is used for the maintenance of microorganisms, as well as for the detection of bacterial motility and, with added carbohydrate, for fermentation reactions of fastidious microorganisms.
