About this item

BBL™ cooked meat medium is used for the cultivation of anaerobes in particular clostridia pathogens.

  • Supports the growth of most of sporulated, non-spore-bound anaerobes
  • Muscle protein present in the granules of cardiac tissue is a source of amino acids and others nutrients
  • Growth is indicated by turbidity and presence of gas bubbles

Robertson developed a ground with cooked meat to use in the cultivation of some anaerobes isolated from wounds. The current formulation of the ground with cooked meat is a modification of the Robertson's original formula.

Can be used for the cultivation and conservation of clostridia and for the determination of the proteolytic activity of anaerobes.

This medium provides a favorable environment for the growth of anaerobes. The sulfhydryl groups, which exert the reducing effect, are more available in denatured protein; therefore, the meat particles are cooked for use in the medium.
