This Lipid-compatible peroxide assay kit detects peroxides based on oxidation of ferrous to ferric ion in the presence of xylenol orange
Peroxides in the sample oxidize Fe2+ to Fe3+. The Fe3+ ion will form a colored complex with xylenol orange that can be read at 560nm.
*Xylenol orange is (o-cresolsulfonephthalein-3´-3´-bis-[methyliminodiacetic acid sodium salt]).
It can be used with lipid-containing samples without extracting the lipids. The assay is less sensitive, since it does not contain sorbitol. Most proteins do not interfere with this assay, although some metal chelators may require use of a blank (ie. control) to mitigate these effects.
