Schaedler Agar is a solid medium used in qualitative procedures for the isolation of anaerobic bacteria from clinical specimens.

  • Peptones provide nitrogen, amino acids, and peptides
  • Yeast extract is a growth enhancer
  • Hemin stimulates the growth of fastidious microorganisms

Laked blood may be added to the prepared medium to enhance the pigmentation of Prevotella and Porphyromonas species.
