Niet-cytotoxisch, primair PS. Standaard petrischalen van 90 mm worden door microbiologen gebruikt om micro-organismen te cultiveren op vaste media. Schalen met drie ventilatieopeningen helpen bij gasvormige uitwisseling en zijn ideaal voor kortdurende werkzaamheden. Schalen met één ventilatieopening beperken gasvormige uitwisseling, minimaliseren verdamping en dehydratie en zijn bij uitstek geschikt voor langdurige werkzaamheden. Niet-geventileerde schalen zijn het meest geschikt voor anaerobe en langdurige werkzaamheden.
