Diaion® HP20 is used as a filler in chromatography columns due to its extremely large pores. It is considered as an effective adsorbent to eliminate toxic effects in fermentation and separation of traces heavy metal ions. It is also useful for the purification of peptides, proteins, fermentation products, polyphenols and cephalosporin C. It helps to remove bitter tasting substances from fruit juices.

Bond Elut™ SCX is a strong cation exchanger with a very low pKa. Although the pKa is similar to Bond Elut™ PRS, the presence of the benzene ring in the functional group increases the potential for non-polar interactions. This non-polar characteristic becomes particularly important when conducting ion-exchange from aqueous systems, where selectivity towards compounds exhibiting cationic and non-polar character is seen.

Bond Elut™ C18 is the most hydrophobic, bonded silica sorbent in the Bond Elut™ range. It is the most popular SPE sorbent because of its extremely retentive nature for non-polar compounds. C18 is generally regarded as having the broadest spectrum of retention among bonded silica sorbents, since it retains most organic analytes from aqueous matrices. When analysing small to intermediate molecules, Bond Elut™ C18 can be used for desalting aqueous matrices prior to ion exchange, as salts pass through the sorbent unretained.

The AdEasy Virus Purification Kit allows the purification and concentration of Adenovirus (from Ad5 strains) with Sartobind® syringe filters containing an ion exchange membrane adsorber that selectively binds adenoviral particles. Once bound, viral particles can be further purified by washing away nonspecifically-bound proteins before elution. Concentrated and purified viral particles can be obtained in 2 to 3 hours, in contrast to traditional CsCl gradient centrifugation which typically takes 12 to 48 hours.

The PRP-X100 is a polymeric column packing for separation of inorganic and organic anions from 10 to 500 ppm. These columns can be used to separate ions at concentrations from 1 to 1000 ppm without suppression or elaborate preconcentration techniques. In dit experiment voeren de leerlingen een zuivering van het restrictie-enzym Eco RI uit. Bij deze procedure wordt gebruikgemaakt van een stap met ionenuitwisselingschromatografie voor het zuiveren van Eco RI. De kolomfracties worden getoetst op het enzym met behulp van lambda-DNA en de verteringsproducten worden geïdentificeerd door middel van gelelektroforese. Fracties die Eco RI bevatten, worden geïdentificeerd en gepoold. De totale en specifieke activiteit worden berekend. Aanbevolen voor cursussen voor gevorderden.
