De homogenisator met hoge druk HPH is een inline dispergeermachine voor energie-efficiënte, continue productie van superfijne emulsies. Vergeleken met andere inline IKA machines, is het dispergeren van de homogenisator met hoge druk HPH niet gebaseerd op het rotor/stator-principe. Het verbeterde homogenisatie-effect wordt bereikt in de homogenisator door spontane decompressie van de vloeistof van maximaal 2000 bar tot een omgevingsdruk. Met dezelfde energie-input produceert de IKA HPH aanzienlijk fijnere emulsies dan gebruikelijke dispergeerders met getande ring. Het gebruik van homogenisatoren met hoge druk
wordt aanbevolen wanneer een desintegratie tot nanogrootte vereist is. De machines hebben echter wel een lager debiet dan gebruikelijke dispergeerders.
De homogenisator met hoge druk bestaat uit een hogedrukzuigerpomp en een stroomafwaarts geplaatste homogenisatieklep. De drukopbouw in de HPH ontstaat door één of meer zuigerpompen die, met behulp van de keramische zuigers, zorgen voor een debiet dat onafhankelijk is van druk en zo goed als pulsatievrij. De gewenste homogenisatiedruk kan traploos aangepast worden. De druk wordt verminderd in een instelbare opening van de homogenisatieklep. De snelle drukvermindering in een bewegend medium zorgt voor extreem hoge turbulentie en cavitaties, hierdoor wordt het onbewerkte product gemalen. Het ontwerp van de machine kan aan de specifieke taken van de klant aangepast worden. De homogenisator met hoge druk is beschikbaar in twee groottes met één of meer zuiger(s) met verschillende diameters. Deze parameters bepalen de maximaal mogelijke homogenisatiedruk (800 of 2000 bar) voor een specifiek type machine, het minimaal toegestane toevoervolume (tot 10 ml) en ook de homogenisatieresultaten en het debiet.
