De elektroforesebuffers handhaven een constante pH-waarde tijdens de scheiding van DNA, RNA en andere eiwitten. De oplossingen met een lage lading leveren ionen die de aangelegde stroom geleiden, waardoor verschillende moleculaire groottes met verschillende snelheden kunnen bewegen voor analyse. De preparatieve stoffen bieden extra bescherming aan eiwitten en voorkomen afbraak, wat de levensvatbaarheid van het monster en nauwkeurige testen garandeert. De buffers zijn verkrijgbaar in verschillende molecuulgewichten, zodat de meest geschikte elektroforesebuffer kan worden gekozen op basis van de specifieke macromoleculen die worden verwerkt.
