Optimal weighing processes – how to avoid mistakes when using high resolution balances

Scientists in R&D or analytical labs need the most reliable weighing results. Sartorius' Cubis II is a completely configurable portfolio of premium lab balances, which also includes balances with very high resolution, e.g. ultra-micro, microbalances, semi-micro and analytical balances. These highly sensitive balances require a little closer inspection of their site, and a slightly deeper understanding of external influences caused by the user or the environment, to always achieve optimum results.

Very often, the application requires weighing of very small amounts of samples into large flasks or containers. The smaller the sample quantities are, the greater the relative measuring errors become. Also the larger the tare container size employed, the higher the influence of environmental conditions will be on weighing accuracy.

External environmental influences or improper handling can lead to inaccurate results, or poor weighing performance not caused by the balance. This webinar teaches us about the background of weighing, and gives some very helpful tips to ensure high accuracy during weight measurements and excellent repeatability of results.

Dr. Thomas Pertsch

Dr. Thomas Pertsch studied physics at the Georg August University, Göttingen. During his PhD in atomic and molecular physics at the Max Planck Institute for Fluid Dynamics, he gained expertise in laser-induced Raman and mass spectroscopy on molecular beams. In 1989 he joined the Sartorius R&D department, and later took the responsibility of Product Manager for premium lab balances and mass comparators. Currently he is working on further product and portfolio innovations for lab balances at the highest level of performance.
