For sealing capillary tubes. The dry end of the filled tube is pressed into the Cristaseal with a twisting motion producing a firm seal with flat boundaries. The tray may be used as a carrier for tubes prior to centrifuging.

Quicker than flame sealing which can haemolyse the blood
