Ham's F-12 media was originally derived by modifying Ham's F-10 to include increased concentrations of choline, inositol, putrescine, and several amino acids. It was developed specifically for serum free culturing of Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells and has also been used with supplementation to grow chondrocytes, primary rat hepatocytes, rat prostate epithelial cells, carcinoma cells, rat skeletal myoblasts and rat, rabbit, and chicken embryos.
