Lipid rafts are membrane microdomains that are enriched in caveolin, cholesterol, glycolipids, sphingolipids and glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol. Lipid rafts are also known as detergent-insoluble glycolipid-enriched complexes (GEMs) or DIGs.
