Antigen-Antikörper-Tests basieren auf der Tatsache, dass für jedes Antigen ein spezifischer Antikörper existiert, sodass jedes Antigen zum Nachweis des jeweils anderen verwendet werden kann. Diese Tests werden üblicherweise mit Serum durchgeführt, gelegentlich können jedoch auch Proben anderer Körperflüssigkeiten, Gewebe oder Stuhlproben verwendet werden. Verschiedene Modelle von Antigen-Antikörper-Tests stehen zur Isolierung und Differenzierung unterschiedlicher Erregerstämme zur Verfügung.
